A club-by-club look at the players Aussie fans will be familiar with this IPL season

Chennai Super Kings

Last year’s IPL champions will again by helped along by Aussie veteran Shane Watson, who is fresh off a brilliant performance in the recent Pakistan Super League. Watson will be joined by Melbourne Stars allrounder Dwayne Bravo and Perth Scorchers’ English quick David Willey and coached by Stephen Fleming, who recently departed the Stars.

Delhi Capitals

Coach Ricky Ponting is the only Aussie involved with the recently renamed Delhi franchise, although BBL fans will be keen to see how Nepalese spinner Sandeep Lamichhane performs after his strong season with the Melbourne Stars. Adelaide Strikers skipper for much of BBL|08, Colin Ingram, will also be at Ponting’s disposal.

Kings XI Punjab

After a breakthrough IPL campaign last year, AJ Tye is back at the Kings XI Punjab this season and will aim for another strong tournament to make a late run for Australia’s World Cup squad. He’ll be joined by countryman Moises Henriques, once his JLT Sheffield Shield duties are over, while Brisbane Heat’s Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman will also be keen to impress.

Kolkata Knight Riders

With his World Cup dream all but over, Chris Lynn will return to Kolkata and look to replicate his stunning form from recent seasons. The Knight Riders also have a couple of English BBL stars on their list; Renegades-title winning left-armer Harry Gurney and Sixers allrounder Joe Denly.

Mumbai Indians

Australia have a host of fast-bowling options to choose from for the World Cup, and Jason Behrendorff can jump to near the top of the list with a good early season showing for Mumbai. Veteran Ben Cutting is also at the Indians after enjoying plenty of success at Sunrisers Hyderabad in the past.

Rajasthan Royals

There’s be plenty of Australian focus on the Royals as Steve Smith makes his return from injury and aims to force his way into Australia’s World Cup squad. Ashton Turner will look to do the same after his impressive ODI showing against India earlier this month, while Hurricanes star Jofra Archer is back at Rajasthan this season as well.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

RCB recruit Marcus Stoinis is a certainty to be in Australia’s World Cup squad and new IPL teammate Nathan Coulter-Nile can secure his spot with a good showing for his new club. The pair will head to India at the end of Australia’s ODI series against Pakistan and look to continue their momentum ahead of the World Cup in England.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

This is the other club that will have huge Australian interest given David Warner will be looking to show his best ahead of the announcement of Australia’s World Cup squad. Warner is part of a strong Aussie flavour at the Sunrisers, alongside paceman Billy Stanlake and coach Tom Moody. There’s also plenty of Afghan and BBL interest in the form of Strikers star Rashid Khan and Renegades allrounder Mohammad Nabi.
