Ishant fined by ICC in first Test

Paceman hit in the pocket for going too far with a celebration

India fast bowler Ishant Sharma has been sanctioned by the International Cricket Council for his provocative celebration of England's Dawid Malan wicket on day three of the first Test at Edgbaston.

The ICC fined Ishant 15 per cent of his match fee and handed him one demerit point to his disciplinary record.

Ishant pleaded guilty to the charge and accepted the sanction handed down by ICC match referee Jeff Crowe.

Ishant, who claimed 5-51 in England's second innings, turned Malan inside out with a terrific delivery that found the left-hander's outside edge through to Ajinkya Rahane in the slips cordon.

His celebration was deemed to breach Article 2.1.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to "using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman upon his/her dismissal during an international match".
