Maddinson finds form but Surrey lose

Australian posts his best score for new English county, but Usman Khawaja's Glamorgan win at The Oval

Australian Nic Maddinson hit a quick-fire innings of 70, but it wasn't enough as his Surrey side went down to Glamorgan at The Oval in England's domestic T20 competition.

Scorecard: Surrey v Glamorgan at The Oval

After Maddinson's countryman Aaron Finch (30 from 17) and England's Jason Roy (27 from 21) gave Surrey a strong start, Maddinson produced his best performance for his new county, hitting five fours and three sixes in his 45-ball knock.

One of Maddinson's three maximums came when he sliced a low full toss over the rope at third man, the ball clearing the short boundary despite appearing to come off the toe of the Australian's bat.

The innings was a welcome return to form for Maddinson, who has had a turbulent off-season that's included an international recall, losing his state contract with NSW and shifting south to Melbourne to pursue an opportunity with Victoria.

The left-hander, who signed a three-year deal to join the Melbourne Stars in the KFC Big Bash League, will play club cricket in Melbourne this year and looks likely to force his way into Victoria's one-day side at the start of the season, despite not holding a contract with the Vics.

Finch rewrites record books with super knock

Maddinson's knock steered Surrey to a total of 194 from their 20 overs on Tuesday night, a total that Glamorgan chased down with an over to spare.

Aussie Usman Khawaja made 10 for the Welsh side, who were missing Adelaide Strikers batsman Colin Ingram and Australian Joe Burns due to injury.
