Virat Kohli's absurd ODI numbers

Ahead of the first Gillette ODI Series clash at the SCG on Saturday, here are the scary numbers India captain Virat Kohli has put up in his ODI career to date.

Australian fans should probably stop reading here. The figures are daunting to say the least…

59.83 – Kohli's ODI batting average after 208 innings, the highest of any batsman in history having batted at least 50 innings. The next highest is Australia's Michael Bevan, who averaged 53.58 in 196 innings for Australia. 

69.34 – Kohli's ODI batting average after 118 digs in the second innings (min. 50 innings). Kohli averages 12.5 more runs than No.2 on that list, South Africa's AB de Villiers, who averaged 56.81 in 103 innings.

23 – Number of centuries Kohli has scored in the second innings, comfortably the most ever in the history of ODI cricket. Next best is Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 17 hundreds in 232 innings. Kohli has amassed his 23 in just 118 innings. 

51.39 – Kohli's average against Australia. It's the fifth highest against Australia (min. of 20 innings) behind teammate Rohit Sharma (66.37), de Villiers (59.52), Clive Lloyd (54.22) and Faf du Plessis (51.57).

98.93 – Kohli's average in 76 innings when India win chasing. This number is just mind blowing. He basically averages 100 when India win batting second. Kohli has scored 20 of his 38 ODI centuries in winning pursuits, along with 19 half-centuries. He also scores at 98.67 runs per 100 balls faced, and his 183 is the joint second-highest individual score batting second, behind Shane Watson's 185no against Bangladesh. Behind Kohli on this list is former skipper MS Dhoni, who averages 97.81 in 71 innings, and he is the other player to have scored 183 in the second innings, although his was undefeated. Just a reminder both Kohli and Dhoni are in the same team.

133.55 – Kohli's average over the past 12 months. In the past year, Kohli has played 14 ODIs, scored six centuries and at a strike rate of 102.55.

87.80 – Kohli's average after 54 innings as skipper, the highest by an skipper ever (min. 20 innings). Kohli's closest rival is de Villiers, who averaged 63.94 in 98 innings at the helm, while Dhoni averaged 53.55 in 172 innings. 

102.40 – Kohli's average in wins as captain. He's scored 2765 runs in wins in 39 innings with 13 centuries. And yep, you guessed it, it's the highest ever ahead of de Villiers (80.94, min. 20 innings).

138.07 – finally, Kohli's average as captain, batting second and winning the game. Pretty high, right? Well, that's correct, but de Villiers averaged 266 when he was at the helm, the Proteas bowled first and came out victorious.
