Youngster set for India ODI debut

An uncapped paceman appears likely to be handed a debut against Australia on Tuesday

Uncapped Indian paceman Barinder Sran looks set to be called for his international debut for the series-opening one-day clash with Australia at the WACA Ground.

Australia is also likely to have a debutant, with either Joel Paris or Scott Boland - or both - in line to debut on Tuesday in the first of five one-day clashes.

However it is a hamstring injury to Mohammed Shami which looks set to force India's hand in blooding left-arm paceman Sran.

Shami re-injured his hamstring in the warm up of India's Twenty20 match against a Western Australia XI on Friday.

He has flown home with his place taken by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Kumar is an unlikely starter for Tuesday's series opener - and with Shami out, and Ishant Sharma no certainty having yet to bowl on tour, 23-year-old Sran looks odds on to earn his debut.

Sran did well in India's tour matches against the WA XI with 2-24 in the T20 game on Friday and 0-22 in the one-dayer on Saturday.

India bowling coach Bharat Arun believes Tuesday could be the ideal time to blood Sran, who has taken 32 first-class wickets.

"If he has the ability then it's a bilateral series and we'd like to try all the potential bowlers that we have. He has been impressive so far and hopefully he can get straight away into the groove," Arun said following Saturday's 64-run win.

"He is a bowler with a lot of potential and he's been pretty impressive in these two games that he's played.

"Being a left-armer, too, gives us an added advantage and it's good to have somebody who we can groom to become a good bowler in the future."
