Yuvraj to miss Champs Trophy tune-up

India batsman out of warm-up match with viral fever but the BCCI insist he's "recuperating well"

India will be without destructive limited-overs star Yuvraj Singh for their Champions Trophy warm-up match against New Zealand on Sunday in the United Kingdom.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed Yuvraj would miss the one-day practice game against the Black Caps in London due to viral fever, but said they're confident the left-hander was on track to make a full recovery.

"Yuvraj Singh, who is presently down with viral fever, is making steady progress," the BCCI said in a statement.

"There are no major health concerns and he is recuperating well, to the satisfaction of the medical team.

"The medical team will continue to monitor Yuvraj Singh's progress and hope for a speedy recovery."

The practice match, to be played at The Oval, is the first of two warm-up games for the defending champions. They'll face Bangladesh two days later at the same venue.

Rohit Sharma will also miss the New Zealand match having remained in India for a family wedding, but is expected to be available for the game against Bangladesh.

Skipper Virat Kohli says India will go out "to enjoy" their cricket despite suggestions India may not front up for the one-day international showpiece event.

A revenue-sharing dispute between the BCCI and the ICC saw India only name their squad two weeks after the original deadline for the tournament.

But Kohli said the team were determined to keep their hunger for success.

Quick Single: Head becoming 'the complete package'

"The hunger to win and ruthlessness is what we speak about all the time," Kohli told reporters before India left for England.

"The first challenge is to not think about that you are defending the title. When we went out there the last time we just wanted to enjoy," said Kohli.

"We were a young unit. We ended up winning the tournament and creating a team which has done so well so far."

India, who beat England in the 2013 Champions Trophy final, are on a roll, winning 10 of the 13 Tests played against New Zealand, England, Bangladesh and Australia in a marathon home season.

The side also won their three-match ODI series against England 2-1 and most of their players have just been involved in the high-octane Indian Premier League.

India are in Group B along with South Africa and Sri Lanka, who they'll face following their mouth-watering tournament-opener against fierce rivals Pakistan at Edgbaston on June 4.
