Matthew Gale was extremely unlucky to miss out on a spot in the Shield final after delivering a near faultless season with the ball.

The 29 year old enjoyed his first full season with the Bulls, after missing the early part of his career through injury.

His debut in 2011 started brilliantly, with the paceman removing Liam Davis in the first over of the innings. He took a further five Western Australian scalps for the match, helping his side to a comprehensive 192 run victory on the road.

Gale started the Ryobi Cup season in style, claiming 3/48 against the Blues in Brisbane. This included Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin, as well as the dangerous Moises Henriques and Ben Rohrer.

His next 50 over game saw him pick up three of the four Warriors’ wickets to fall, as Shaun Marsh guided the visitors to a crushing win.

And in his only other Ryobi Cup game, Gale took career best figures of 5/67 to help his side sneak past the Bushrangers.

Gale made the most of a rare opportunity in the four day game, taking six wickets against the Warriors at the Gabba.

Despite boasting better than average records with the ball, Gale has been somewhat underused in a side brimming with quality quicks.
