The Sydney Thunder today announced as their first major signing, one of the most destructive batsmen in world cricket : David Warner.

Warner, whose signature has been sought by a number of KFC Big Bash League teams, has decided to pledge his allegiance to the electric green of the Sydney Thunder, and will be a major crowd-puller for the ANZ Stadium based team.

Warner has a superb history at ANZ Stadium having represented the RTA SpeedBlitz Blues in the KFC Big Bash on a number of occasions, including hitting a memorable four sixes in one over from Shaun Tait two years ago, as the paceman felt the hammer of the left-handers bat.

Warner, who is in Zimbabwe with the Australia ‘A’ side, is delighted to be joining the Thunder: “I am extremely happy to sign with the Sydney Thunder, and I’m looking forward to walking out to represent the electric greens.

"The KFC Big Bash League is a great concept and I’m sure there will be good rivalry with the Sixers across town. ANZ Stadium is a fantastic place to play cricket at and I have some great memories there”.

"He is a match-winner. David has a great track record at ANZ Stadium and we think he represents what the Thunder is all about : passion and excitement. We look forward to him thrilling Thunder fans with his hitting this summer.”
