Xavier College student has rare feat in caught on film by teammate
Hart's triple hat-trick a net sensation
Xavier College student James Hart achieved one of cricket's rarest feats on Friday when he claimed five wickets in five balls – a triple hat-trick – in unbelievable circumstances.
Melbourne's 3AW Breakfast Rumour File confirmed the news Monday, but what made this even more remarkable was that the fifth wicket was not only caught one-handed at cover, it was also video recorded by the fielder.
Xavier College – the Melbourne school Shane Warne's 14-year-old son Jackson took four wickets in five balls against on the weekend for Brighton Grammar – were taking on Carey Grammar at Jackson Oval in a Twenty20 match when Hart was called upon to bowl his first over in more than five years.
Speaking to cricket.com.au, Hart, 17, said his popularity was at an all-time high at school today, and recounted the over that has made him an internet sensation.
"The first three were caught at point, pretty much they skied it after a top-edge and got caught at point," Hart said.
"The fourth one was an edge to the keeper, and the fifth one was obviously the video."
The cameraman was teammate and supreme multi-tasker Lachie Albion, who advised Hart he should have begun filming a lot sooner than the triple hat-trick delivery.
"He thought he had to start doing it after the first wicket," Hart said.
"Then I don't know, it just perfectly fell into his hand.
"He was fielding at cover and it went straight to him."
Unsurprisingly, the video's legitimacy has come under question.
But Hart confirmed the authenticity of the video, and can understand the scepticism.
"Yeah it was genuine. I thought everyone wouldn't believe it was true either," he said.
"I think he (Albion) was holding his phone with his left hand and he caught it with his right hand.
"He jostled with it as well. He fumbled it and came back and caught it.
"He caught it over his head, then spilled it, then caught it again."
