Thunder take out first match of the Quadrangular Academy Series in Sydney's west
Thunder defeat Sixers in Academy series-opener
The Sydney Thunder Academy have won the opening match of the Quadrangular Academy Series by 16 runs over the Sydney Sixers Academy at Blacktown International Sportspark.
Boasting a side featuring former Australia batsman Ben Rohrer, the Thunder's 5-157 off their allotted 20 overs proved too many for the young Sixers outfit.
Jordan Gauci struck a half-century for the Thunder Academy while Sixers rookie Soumil Chhibber took an absolute screamer to remove Rohrer.
The tournament also features the Hobart Hurricanes Academy and the Pakistan Super League's Lahore Qalandars' Jazz Rising Stars.

"It’s always great to have a local derby against the Sixers whether its against the Academy or in the Big Bash," said Thunder captain Chris Green ahead of the match.
"I enjoy the challenge of captaining and offering the little experience I have had in the Big Bash to those guys."
