While the Aussies endured a 4-0 thumping in India early this year, it was only 12 months before that that the shoe was very much on the other foot.
Classic Adelaide moments - Number five
Heading to Adelaide in January 2012, Michael Clarke’s side was looking to wrap up their own 4-0 whitewash, and it was a stunning stand between the captain and his predecessor, Ricky Ponting, that put the wheels in motion.
Hot on the heels of his epic 329 not out in the second Test in Sydney, Clarke was in a savage mood in Adelaide, racing to his double century before lunch on day two, making him one of only three players to have scored a triple and a double century in the same series.
By his side throughout was Ponting, compiling a masterful 221, as the pair put together a record-breaking stand of 386.
"It's always nice to see us both scoring runs when we bat together," Clarke said. "We've known each other for a long time, played a lot of cricket together. We speak a lot when we bat about what the other person has seen, to get help and advice and to keep both of us going.
“Ricky and I spoke early in our innings, once we got in again today, it was about going on and making big ones. The positive is it's nice to score some more runs and to have 600 runs on the board. The other side of that though is that it's going to take a hell of a lot of work to take 20 wickets on that wicket.”
For that, Clarke had his bowlers – and a tired Indian side – to thank, as they wrapped up victory on day five and completed their comprehensive 4-0 series sweep.
