Yuvraj Singh has smashed nine sixes in a 29-ball onslaught that guided Royal Challengers Bangalore to a 16-run win over Delhi Daredevils that keeps Kevin Pietersen's team firmly rooted to the foot of the Indian Premier League ladder.

Singh blasted three sixes off South Africa spinner Imran Tahir to get his innings going, and ended Bangalore's dig with four sixes off Rahul Shukla. He finished unbeaten with 68 and has now blasted 16 sixes in his past two innings after a 38-ball 83 against Rajasthan featured seven maximums.

His consecutive six hitting brought back memories of the 2007 World T20 tournament in South Africa where Yuvraj delighted the Kingsmead crowd by belting a baby-faced and hapless Stuart Broad all around the park for 36 runs from the 19th over.

Bangalore finished their innings at 4-186, with AB de Villiers chiming in for a 17-ball 33 while Chris Gayle added 22 and Virat Kohli run out on 10.

Delhi struggled to recover their composure and couldn't find the necessary momentum as Mitchell Starc struck early on in their innings, removing South African Quinton de Kock for six.

That wicket was the second Dehli Daredevil to fall after Muttiah Muralitharan, playing just his second IPL game this season, struck in his first over to have Murali Vijay trapped lbw.

JP Duminy cleared the rope three times before Starc returned to bowl him for 48 and Delhi skipper and Melbourne Stars target Kevin Pietersen could only manage 33 before he was stumped.

Pietersen’s tournament has been blighted by a couple of bizarre run-out situations while the one Australian in the squad, Nathan Coulter-Nile, has had his IPL experience cruelly curtailed with a hamstring injury.
