Brilliant Behrendorff hands Warriors win

Hosts charge to outright victory after stunning spell by paceman

Scorecard: WA v Queensland

Left-arm quick Jason Behrendorff has overcome illness to bowl Western Australia to an outright win over Queensland in the final session on day three at the WACA Ground in the Bupa Sheffield Shield.

Having conceded a first innings deficit of 194, Queensland lost Joe Burns (7) and Marnus Labuschagne (6) to Behrendorff early in their second innings but Greg Moller and Peter Forrest showed impressive fight, coming together at 2-19 and putting together a 125-run stand.

But when Moller was bowled by Michael Hogan for 86, and Forrest (43) gave Sam Whiteman his third catch of the innings, the Bulls had begun a spectacular collapse, losing 8-61

Tailender Alister McDermott (25) ensured the Warriors would have to bat again as he and Peter George (two not out) put on a 10th-wicket stand of 27 to push the score to 210.

Incredibly, Behrendorff spent much of the second session off the field due to illness, but finished with 7-70 and 10 wickets for the match.

Needing just 17 to win, the Warriors lost Cameron Bancroft (2) and Michael Klinger (1) to James Hopes, who finished with seven wickets for the match, before Marcus Harris (10 not out) and Adam Voges (5 not out) sealed the eight-wicket win.

Western Australia have now won their opening two Shield matches, having beaten Tasmania by seven wickets in the opening round.
