Blood pressure went through the roof: NCN

Nathan Coulter-Nile tells how he handled the high-pressure final over against Sunrisers Hyderabad

Nathan Coulter-Nile looked cool, calm and collected as he bowled Delhi to a second successive IPL victory on Saturday, but the quick says his “blood pressure has gone through the roof” after four tight finishes.

Coulter-Nile successfully defended 10 runs in the final over to seal the win over Sunrisers Hyderabad, conceding just five runs and executing a run-out.

Quick single: Coulter-Nile seals thrilling win

“We’ve got into a bit of a habit to take games till the last over, haven’t we?” Coulter-Nile told iplt20.com.

“Taking the games into the last over is fantastic for the crowd and TV but it is not good for my heart.

“My blood pressure has gone through the roof. But you love winning games like that.”

Coulter-Nile said he and captain JP Duminy had used the strategic timeout to organise a plan for the final over.

“The first couple of balls I was trying to hit the block hole and get the yorker right, and see what the batsman wanted to do,” he said.

“He actually played a really good shot down to third man and we were lucky that it found the fielder. “In the balls to follow, I just played on and kept my options open. It turned out that I bowled six full balls which worked in the end.”

The second last ball looked set to go for six – a result which would have tied scores with one ball remaining - before a magnificent save by Mayank Agarwal restricted the Sunrisers to two runs.

“I thought that one would go for a six and there would be a lot more pressure on the last ball, but it was a fantastic save by Mayank Agarwal,” he said.

“Obviously five to win of the last ball is better than having to get one.

“Even the last ball, the moment it was hit, it didn’t sound great off the bat but with small grounds in India you never know.

“Angelo Mathews took a good catch and I was lucky enough to get another wicket.”

Quick single: Bailey knock not enough for Kings XI

Coulter-Nile said playing in crunch situations in front of large crowds was part of the thrill of the IPL.

“It was a nerve wracking game but I guess that’s what you play the game for.

“You play for situations like that. You don’t get to experience something of that sort anywhere in the world.

“Nervous energy, anticipation, the crowd is loud and it is for reasons like these that I love this game.”

With two wins from four matches, Coulter-Nile said he hoped his team was headed in the right direction.

The Daredevils next host Kolkata Knight Riders on April 20.

“We’ve got a really good group and have a good balance in our batting and bowling,” Coulter-Nile said.

“I don’t see any team we can’t beat or contest with.

“We are lucky enough to have a good bunch of people who know their game quite well.”
