Bangladesh ODI skipper injured but not serious as rickshaw hit by bus on way to training in Mirpur
Mashrafe escapes after bus collision
Bangladesh one-day skipper Mashrafe Mortaza has had a lucky escape after a bus collided with the rickshaw he was travelling in.
The incident in Mirpur saw the Bangladeshi receive cuts and grazes on both hands and knee after he jumped from his rickshaw to avoid the bus near the Shere Bangla National Stadium.
He was bandaged by the team's medical officer but is expected to be available for his country's one-day series against India, starting on June 18.
"When I saw the bus approaching towards my rickshaw, I jumped out in anticipation," Mashrafe said at the team's training session after being treated.
"The tyre was broken and I tried to save my legs by diving out of the rickshaw. I am very lucky to have escaped with only some skin damage.
"My car was taking my child to the doctor for vaccination so I took the rickshaw to the ground. It is a 10-minute ride from my house."
The Bangladesh support staff expect Mashrafe to recover quickly, although coach Chandika Hathurasinga told ESPN he was "concerned about his palm".
"But we will give him maximum chance to recover in time for the ODI series."
