Yorkshire, Adelaide my 'dream job': Dizzy

Gillespie says he would 'take persuading' to leave his current roles to take England job

Jason Gillespie has poured cold water on the prospects of him coaching England in this winter's Ashes series, claiming coaching Yorkshire was his "dream job" and his role next summer with the Adelaide Strikers was something he was "looking forward to sinking my teeth into".

Gillespie added he not yet been formally contacted by the England and Wales Cricket Board's new Director of Cricket Andrew Strauss over the England vacancy and said he would "take persuading" to give Yorkshire up for the England role.

Gillespie, the former Australia Test fast-bowling great, is widely touted as the hot favourite to fill the vacant England head coach role created by Strauss's sacking of former coach Peter Moores following poor showings at the World Cup and the 1-1 Test series draw with the West Indies.

"It's very humbling, very flattering," Gillespie said of being linked to the England role.

"I'm in my dream job. It would certainly take persuading (to leave Yorkshire)," Gillespie told BBC Sport.

"The Yorkie boys have been giving me enough grief about it, which has been quite funny.

"But I haven't had any contact and until that happens I can't say anything.

"We'll just have to wait and see. Strauss mentioned my name publicly so I may get a call."

Adding a further layer of intrigue to Strauss's public courtship of Gillespie is the South Australian's role with the Adelaide Strikers, which he has committed to for the next two seasons of the KFC T20 Big Bash League.

"That's a role I'm really excited about and looking forward to sinking my teeth into," Gillespie said of the BBL|05 job.

"I've got a lot of work to do here at Yorkshire, we've got a good core of senior lads and some lads coming through and making their name.

"It's an exciting time at my club."

Before Australia opens their Ashes defence in Cardiff on July 8, England face a stern test against New Zealand, and Gillespie says England are in for a tough challenge against the Black Caps.

"New Zealand are a very good cricket side," Gillespie said. "They've always been a very good side in the short form of the game and a very competitive side in Test cricket.

"Australia have played good cricket over last couple of years but any Test match is a challenge for any side.

"I'm sure England will go out there and look to play a nice positive brand of cricket, but we'll see what happens."
