Stumps at the SCG Test: the daily poll

As far as we can see, this is a simply marvellous idea. But perhaps not everyone will agree. All Australian cricket lovers feel an affinity with Richie and while he called Sydney his home he was the voice of summer around the country for generations.  

The tribute to the great man, turned into a pop culture icon by the impersonations and comedy stylings of The 12th Man is uniquely Sydney. What started out as just a few mates dressed in Richie wigs and cream jackets has turned into a phenomona. And entire section of the SCG has now been given over to The Richies, 501 of them turning up on day two of the New Year's Test against the West Indies.

They want to make it an annual event, arguing an entire stand of Benaud dress-ups would be no finer tribute to the great man.
