Pietersen wants response from Supergiants

The Englishman wants his side to bounce back to winning ways

Rising Pune Supergiants batsman Kevin Pietersen is looking for his side to bounce back to form in Sunday's IPL clash against Kings XI Punjab.

The star-studded Supergiants fell to a disappointing seven-wicket loss to Gujarat Lions on Thursday and need to defeat Kings XI Punjab to stay on track for a finals berth.

While Pietersen knows there is plenty of time remaining in the tournament for his side to find form, the Englishman is hoping to see a good response in Sunday's clash.

"It is (about) how you respond to losing games, it's not about losing games," Pietersen told Cricbuzz.

"You are going to lose, you are going to have bad days and you deal with your bad days and you accept them.

"But it's how you deal with them and how you come back tomorrow. It's a long tournament."

The Supergiants have plenty of international experience in their line-up, with Australia Test captain Steve Smith, South African veteran Faf du Plessis and India wicketkeeper MS Dhoni among the talented squad.

Dhoni is officially the captain of the Supergiants, but Pietersen says everyone in the side has an official role to play during a match.

"I actually think that the 11 that take the field have to captain themselves," he said.

"They have got a responsibility to MS and to the coaches to captain themselves and the team.

"So there might be four 'C's next to certain names in the team but I actually think that in T20 cricket, where every ball is an event, everyone is a captain."

Australian duo Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Johnson are among the Kings XI Punjab stars that the Supergiants will have to quell in Sunday's match, but Pietersen is more focused on what his team has to do.

"We are just going to worry about what we do. It doesn't matter what the opposition does. T20 cricket is about momentum and when it is with you, it's good; when it is against you, not so good,” he said.

"How that works, I don't know.

"They have got a very good team on paper, we have also got a very good team on paper."
