LAST NIGHT

South Africa heaped the misery on hapless Sri Lanka with a resounding eight-wicket win in Delhi, bringing to an end disappointing tournaments for both nations as the Super 10s phase came to a close.

Missing inspirational captain Angelo Mathews, Sri Lanka raced to 0-45 after being sent in by Faf du Plessis, but crashed spetacularly, losing 10-75 to become the first team in this ICC World T20 event to be bowled out after batting first.

Little-known spinner Aaron Phangiso impressed with turn and bounce, bowling Dinesh Chandimal and then repeating the dose the very next ball to remove Lahiru Thirimanne with a cracking delivery through the gate.

WATCH: Sri Lanka stun Proteas in Bangalore

In last night's women's match, Sri Lanka stunned South Africa with a 10-run win in Bangalore that saw the Islanders finish third in Group A. Sri Lanka had managed 7-114 after electing to bat but fought back brilliantly to restrict the favoured South Africans to 104 at the Chinnaswamy stadium.

Sri Lanka's captain Chamari Atapattu led from the front with 52, but none of the other team-mates managed to cross 20 as Marizanne Kapp and Sune Luus picked up two wickets each.

South Africa's openers Dane van Niekerk and Trisha Chetty replied with 50 for no loss by the ninth over before the rest of the batting collapsed against the steady Sri Lankan bowling.

AUSTRALIA'S WOMEN

A return to the training track overnight for the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars following Sunday's rare day off and sojourn to the Taj Mahal.

Improving the returns from an at-times misfiring batting line-up has been a focus throughout the tournament and head coach Matthew Mott is confident his side are peaking at the right time in the World T20.

"We had a couple of scares early in the tournament but we're now showing some really good, positive form," Mott said overnight.

"There are players chipping in at different times. The intent we're going out there with, particularly from Villani, in the last couple of games has been very, very impressive and hopefully we keep clicking."

Today in India will bring another training session at Delhi's Feroz Shah Kotla stadium ahead of Wednesday's semi-final at that venue against England. The match will be live on Fox Sports 3 from 8pm.

TONIGHT'S MATCHES

With the tournament entering the knock-out stages we pause to draw breath. There are no matches in India tonight and the cricket world will feel uncomfortably silent.

Perhaps it is the calm before the storm of Wednesday's semi-finals which will see the Southern Stars face England in Delhi in the women's draw before New Zealand and England meet in the men's match. Both games will be live on Fox Sports 3, with the men's semi-final also on free-to-air coverage with Nine's Wide World or Sports
