Du Plessis to face ICC hearing today

Skipper to face ICC hearing in Adelaide after he was charged with ball tampering

South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis will face an ICC hearing at the Adelaide Oval this afternoon (Tuesday) to answer the allegations of ball tampering that have been levelled at him in the wake of the second Test in Hobart.

Du Plessis landed in trouble after television footage appeared to show him shining the ball with a mint in his mouth during the fourth day's play in the second Commonwealth Bank Test against Australia last week.

Du Plessis is yet to speak since being charged by the ICC but has retweeted several messages of support regarding the saga, including one from former Australia opener Matthew Hayden.

Other South African players have vehemently denied that their captain did indeed alter the state of the ball.

There were reports that the hearing wouldn't be held until after the third Test in Adelaide, starting on Thursday, but the ICC has opted to speed up the process.

Quick Single: Reporter showed 'blatant disrespect'

In a statement, the ICC said "in the interests of expediency and in order to protect the integrity of the Adelaide Test" the hearing will take place in Adelaide at 3.30pm on Tuesday local time (4pm AEDT).

Initially South African opener Hashim Amla laughed off the accusations as a joke before du Plessis was charged by the ICC and things intensified for the worse on Monday at Adelaide airport when a Proteas official clashed with media.

Zunaid Wadee, the Proteas' security official, was attempting to shield du Plessis from questions regarding the mint controversy when he physically shoved Nine Network reporter Will Crouch.

Wadee repeatedly pushed, shoulder charged and knocked a microphone from Crouch's hands.

He then shoved Crouch against a glass door as du Plessis, smiling and giving a thumbs up, left the building.

The Proteas, who remain indignant about the accusations levelled at du Plessis, released a statement regarding the physical altercation.

"This is the third incident of a reporter aggressively harassing our players," team manager Mohammed Moosajee said.

"The 'reporter' at the airport disrespected us and continued to harass Faf for comment.

"The 'reporter', who also had no official accreditation, then proceeded to lunge towards Faf with an unknown object causing a direct breach of security protocol.

"Throughout the tour we have respected all our media obligations and treated media with utmost respect.

"At the same time, we would like to see this respect reciprocated and will not accept such behaviour as displayed by the Channel 9 News reporter."
