England pick squad for Australia, India T20s

Ball in line for international T20 debut with Wood rested, as Curran and Jordan join 14-man squad

England have named their squad to face Australia in a one-off T20 International next week and their ensuing T20 series against India.

Paceman Mark Wood has been rested with fellow quick Jake Ball taking his place in the 14-man squad, with the right-armer in line to make his T20I debut.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billings is the only other omission from England's ODI squad, which holds a 2-0 series lead over their Ashes rivals ahead of Tuesday's match at Trent Bridge.

Recent Test debutant Sam Curran and fast bowler Chris Jordan are the two players outside the one-day squad who have been picked for the T20s.

Dawid Malan, James Vince and Liam Dawson, along with Billings, are the players to miss out who were in England's last T20 squad that played New Zealand earlier this year.

As flagged on Monday, allrounders Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes have both missed out as the pair recover from injury, though Stokes will continue his recovery with the squad.

Australia's T20 squad features three players – batsman Nic Maddinson, leg-spinner Mitch Swepson and allrounder Jack Wildermuth – who are not in the ODI touring party.

The trio will replace Tim Paine, Michael Neser and Nathan Lyon, who will all head home following the final 50-over match against England in Manchester on Sunday.

Aaron Finch has been named the T20 side's permanent captain, with wicketkeeper Alex Carey his deputy.
