Trio claim cricket's triple crown

A trio of Victorians have become the first cricketers to ever win Australia's 'triple crown' of domestic competitions.

There were five Victorians that played in both Victoria's JLT One-Day Cup and JLT Sheffield Shield triumphs this season, but only Marcus Harris, Chris Tremain and Cameron White were also part of the KFC BBL-winning Melbourne Renegades side.

"It's capped off a great year for us at Victoria. It started a long time ago back in September with the one-dayers," Harris said at the post-match presentation on Fox Cricket.

"It's been a bit of a whirlwind, so I haven't had much time to sit down and think about what I've done.

"But it's just been brilliant, to have been able to win all three titles with the Vics has been very special. To win a Test series against Sri Lanka was great and obviously to make my debut for Australia.

"It's been a pretty jam-packed summer but I've loved every minute of it."

Victoria and Melbourne Renegades coach Andrew McDonald can also lay claim to the treble having been behind the reins for all three titles.

Travis Dean – who captained the state in their Shield final triumph over NSW – and Matt Short were the other two who played in the one-day final as well as last weekend's first-class title win.

Dean played two games for the Melbourne Stars last season while Short plays his Big Bash cricket with the Adelaide Strikers.

Shield-winner Jon Holland was a squad member with the Renegades for BBL|08 but did not play in the final and was with Australia's Test squad in the UAE during the one-day tournament.

Previously, there had been only two players to win both the BBL title and Sheffield Shield in the same season.

Fawad Ahmed was the first man to do in 2015-16 when he was part of the Sydney Thunder's title in in BBL|05 and then won the Shield with Victoria.

And last summer Michael Neser played a leading role with bat and ball in wins for the Adelaide Strikers in BBL|07 before helping the Queensland Bulls lift the Shield.

Only twice have there been players who have won the one-day cup and BBL title in the same season.

In 2013-13 the Queensland Bulls took out the one-day title and the Brisbane Heat won in BBL|02 with Chris Hartley, Luke Pomersbach, Joe Burns, Peter Forrest and Alister McDermott playing in both finals.

And in 2014-15 the Western Warriors won the one-day cup the same year as the Perth Scorchers won BBL|04, with Michael Klinger, Adam Voges, Ashton Turner, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Sam Whiteman and Jason Behrendorff featuring in both final XIs.

Winning the Shield and one-day cup double is slightly more common but is still a rare feat, and this summer's Victorian side were only the ninth to achieve that double.
