The full rundown of the 16 Australians in the 2022 IPL

Take a closer look at the two new teams and where the Aussies will be playing in this year's Indian Premier League

The 2022 Indian Premier League will be broadcast live in Australia on Fox Sports and live streamed on Kayo

Champions Chennai Super Kings will kick off the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League against former winners Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday night (1am Sunday AEDT) as the Twenty20 tournament returns home with an expanded version following the addition of two new teams.

The entire 2020 edition of the cash-rich tournament and the second half of last year's competition were held in the United Arab Emirates as India grappled with the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year, Mumbai will host 55 matches in three stadiums in and around the city, while Pune – also in the Western state of Maharashtra – will host the remaining 15 league games, which means air travel will not be required for the league's 10 franchises.

Fans will also be allowed to attend matches, with a 25 per cent capacity limit, during the 2022 edition with COVID-19 restrictions easing in the country.

The IPL, which counts Bollywood stars and billionaires among franchise owners and draws the best cricketers globally, has expanded to 10 teams after Lucknow and Ahmedabad paid a combined $US1.7 billion to enter the world's richest cricket tournament.

Sixteen Australians will take part, although they will not be available until April 6, after the white-ball leg of their current tour of Pakistan.

There has been significant player movement following the recent player auction, with just three of the sixteen Australians – Glenn Maxwell, Pat Cummins and Nathan Ellis – returning to the franchise they played for last season.

Take a closer look at the Aussies involved and the 10 teams, including two new franchises, who will compete in the world's richest cricket tournament this year.
