Kiwis set new record T20 score against Scotland

New Zealand scored 5-254 – a record T20 total for the nation – to beat Scotland by 102 runs in their second Twenty20 international in Edinburgh.

Friday's victory means New Zealand won the two-match series 2-0.

Michael Bracewell, batting at No.5, played a key role in the record total by smashing 61 not out off 25 balls, including eight fours and three sixes, after the visitors chose to bat first.

Mark Chapman scored a 44-ball 83 with seven sixes. Scottish pace bowler Gavin Main took 2-44 in four overs.

Dane Cleaver (28), Finn Allen (6) and Daryl Mitchell (31) and Jimmy Neesham (28) were the other men dismissed.

Reduced to 4-37 at one point, Scotland held out to complete their 20 overs to finish on 9-152 in reply.

Chris Greaves top-scored for the hosts with 37 runs off 29 deliveries. He was caught-and-bowled by Ish Sodhi (1-29). Kiwi quick Neesham took 2-9 in one over, and spinner Michael Rippon 2-37 in four overs.

New Zealand's previous best score in cricket's shortest format was 5-243 against West Indies in 2018.

The all-time record for the highest T20 innings is the 3-278 that Afghanistan posted against Ireland in February 2019.

The sides will play a one day international at the same ground on Sunday before the Black Caps face the Netherlands in two T20s. They then have a white-ball tour against the West Indies before their three-match Chappell-Hadlee ODI series against Australia in Cairns in September.
