BBL clash to proceed despite Tassie fires

The Hurricanes and Sixers match will proceed, although there may be delays due to smoke from the bushfires near Hobart

Friday night's KFC BBL clash between the Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Sixers will go ahead as scheduled despite smoke from bushfires affecting the area.

A bushfire has been burning in the south west of Tasmania for more than a week and the smoke has been visible over Hobart since early on Friday morning.

Temperatures in Hobart hit a maximum of 34 degrees on late Friday morning, but a cool change has arrived to provide some relief ahead of the first ball at 7:15pm local time.

While the match will go ahead as planned, the smoke around the ground may cause some delays throughout the contest.

The bushfires have also impacted flights in and out of Hobart, disrupting coverage plans with some key crew unable to attend. The broadcast will proceed as normal with production split between Hobart and the mainland.

The Hurricanes have won all four of their matches at BBL|08, while the Sixers are in fourth place on the ladder with three wins and two losses.
