England opener in race against time to face Aussies

Scans confirm a hamstring tear for Jason Roy with the England opener to miss at least two matches

England's Jason Roy will be racing the clock to take on Australia in their blockbuster World Cup pool match after scans confirmed the opener tore a hamstring muscle against West Indies.

The free scoring opener has been slated to miss the team's next two group games against Afghanistan on Tuesday and Sri Lanka on Friday.

But he is no sure thing to be available the following Tuesday when they take on Australia.

Root reaps rewards as England claim comfortable win

England says Roy will be "reassessed on an ongoing basis this week".

James Vince is likely to come in for Roy this week.

Roy has been among the best players for England at this World Cup, scoring 215 runs at 72 in his three starts, including a tournament equal-leading 153 against Bangladesh.

There was better news about England captain Eoin Morgan, who left the field against the Windies on Friday because of a back spasm. England said the spasm has "settled down and will be monitored" ahead of the match against Afghanistan in Manchester.

England, the host nation and top-ranked team, have won three of their first four group games.
