Hey breaks the 107 year male domination on the board, which has changed from 14 to nine members, including new members Hey, Kevin Roberts and David Peever
Minister for Sport Kate Lundy and Minister for the Status of Women Julie Collins congratulated Ms Hey on her appointment
“Jacquie has a strong corporate background and passion for cricket and will bring a wealth of experience to the Cricket Australia board,” said Senator Lundy.
“With the continued success of the Southern Stars and cricket being one of the most popular sports for all Australian’s, Jacquie’s appointment is another positive move forward for Cricket Australia ongoing Governance review.”
Ms Collins has heralded Ms Hey’s appointment as a step forward for women in leadership positions, in both the public and private sectors.
“Today’s announcement is a positive sign of the changing attitudes towards women and leadership,” Mc Collins said.
“The Government is calling on all Australian organisations to continue to support greater participation of women on boards and in leadership positions.
“The Gillard Government is leading by example when it comes to women’s representation on boards, with female executives filling 35.3 per cent of Government board positions in the last financial year.
“The Government is committed to achieving its target of 40 per cent women on Australian Government boards by 2015.”
