No bull! Mad cow halts play in UK

A village cricket match in the serene English countryside was interrupted when an angry bovine invaded the pitch

We've all heard of Cow Corner – and aimed a booming slog sweep or two there – but things were taken to a whole new level during a village cricket pitch invasion in the UK over the weekend.

An ill-tempered bovine halted play as it charged across the Clarke Lane outfield during a Cheshire Cricket League match as Kerridge hosted Mossley.

The animal had calmly been spectating beyond the long-off boundary before it cantered onto the pitch in a high-steaks showdown with fielders.

The man positioned at mid-on was forced to take evasive action as the beast charged. And while the square-leg fielder scrambled, an unimpressed umpire refused to budge, or even remove his hands from his pockets, and narrowly avoided locking horns and suffering a calf injury.

The mad cow – or bull, we cannot be certain from the footage provided – continued to enjoy its moment in the sun before eventually heading off over the boundary to search for greener grass on adjacent land.

A video of the incident was posted on Twitter by Mossley Cricket Club, which is celebrating its 50th year.

For the record, Kerridge were able to put the interruption behind them, as James Knight and Luke Wild each milked the bowling to post centuries in a total of 4-297 – no wagon veal was available – before four wickets to Knight (one given leg beef-ore) and Adam Banks saw Mossley all out for 149.
