Queensland and ACT into final for the first time
WT20 set for a new champ
The women’s national T20 competition will have a new champion on Friday as the Konica Minolta Queensland Fire take on the Tradies ACT Meteors at the WACA in Perth.
The fire enjoyed a comprehensive eight-wicket win over Victoria in their semi-final at Blacktown, while the ACT brought down powerhouses NSW Breakers in a shock 12-run win, also at Blacktown.
It will be the first time Queensland has contested the WT20 final, after twice previously making the Women’s National Cricket League 50-over final on two occasions, while it will be the first final in either competition for the ACT since they were admitted to the WNCL.
Neither team has won a national title at senior level.
The WT20 Final will be played on Friday prior to the KFC T20 Big Bash League decider between the Perth Scorchers and Hobart Hurricanes, and broadcast live on Network Ten via ONE HD as well as on ABC Radio.
Queensland will finalise its squad tomorrow, with a fitness cloud over pace bowler Courtney Hill (split webbing) who was forced from the field today after taking the key wicket of Victorian Spirit batter Meg Lanning, ranked this week as the No.1 T20 batter in the world following her successful Women’s Ashes campaign for the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars.
The two teams last met in two WT20 matches just prior to Christmas, with the Fire winning on both occasions.
In order to enter the venue to watch the WT20 final, fans will need to have purchased a ticket to the Big Final, which are available via http://www.bigbash.com.au/match-centre/fixture.
The match will be live scored on www.livescores.cricket.com.au, while you can also follow updates via Twitter: @qldcricket @cricketact @SouthernStars.
