Apply now to pick the Indian cricket team

The BCCI have advertised for applicants for five spots on their national selection panel - do you fit the bill?

Want to be a selector for the Indian cricket team? Administrators in the country have made a public call for applications to fill five spots on their national selection panel.

But act quick – applications close on Wednesday.

India's Supreme Court appointed Lodha Committee had recommended The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), reduce the number of selectors to three. However that recommendation has been scrapped.

The BCCI has implemented several of the Lodha Committee's recommendations, and tweaked a few others, including appointing selectors after an interview process for the first time.

Before you fire up the email, there are some conditions. The BCCI publicly advertised for the roles of Senior, Junior and Women's national selectors this week.

To be eligible for the top post of Senior National selector, the BCCI's main criteria is you must have represented India in either a Test or one-day international or played more than 50 first-class matches in India.

To be a junior selector, you must have played at least 50 first-class matches in India. International representation is not a pre-requisite.

There are a host of other conditions that will thin the field of prospective candidates. Applicants must have been retired for at least five years from all forms of cricket – which rules out the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, who played his last Test in November 2013.

People who've already served four years as an India selector are ineligible, as is anyone already working in the IPL or any other T20 tournament, or involved in any cricket academy.

The successful candidate will also have to give up any media commitments, be less than 60 years old and in good health.

"Most of the former players who've served their four-year term as selectors are older than 60. We need to encourage fresh faces," BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke told Times of India.

"We don't want ex-cricketers who're too old, and who would've never played much of the shorter forms of the game."

Get applying, the deadline is approaching.
