Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper on the verge of suspension after a second slow over rate penalty in the IPL
Kohli slapped with massive IPL fine
Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has been fined a remarkable $48,000 by the Indian Premier League for maintaining a slow over rate for a second time.
Kohli's side failed to complete their overs in the allotted time in Monday's loss to Kolkata Knight Riders in Bangalore, and their captain was handed a fine of 24 lakh (AUD48,000).
Kohli was fined 12 lakh ($23,000) for the same offence against the Rising Pune Supergiants last month.
While Kohli copped the brunt of the punishment, his teammates were also fined 6 lakh ($12,000) or 25 per cent of their match fee.
If the RCB skipper is stung with a third slow over rate he will be suspended for one match.

"Virat Kohli, Royal Challengers Bangalore captain was fined after the team maintained a slow over rate during last evening’s VIVO IPL match against Kolkata Knight Riders at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru," an IPL statement read yesterday.
"Since it was his second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Kohli was fined Rs 24 lakh, while the rest of the team was fined Rs 6 lakh each or 25% of their match fee."
The IPL's regulations regarding slow over rates are different to those enforced in international matches.
The International Cricket Council classifies over-rate offences as minor or serious; a minor offence occurs when a side is no more than five overs short of their target in a Test match or no more than two overs in a ODI or T20 international, while a serious breach occurs when a Test side is more than five overs (Tests) or two overs (ODIs or T20s) short of their target.
For minor offences, members of an offending team are fined 10 per cent of their match fee for every over they are short of their target, while the captain of the fielding team is fined 20 per cent of his match fee for every over they are short.
For serious offences, members of an offending team are fined 10 per cent of their match fee per over for the first five or two overs and then 20 per cent for every additional over, while the captain of the fielding team faces a suspension.

In the IPL, only a captain is sanctioned for a first offence in a season.
A second offence by a captain during the season will result in a doubling of the fine, while a second offence by a team in a season will result in each player being fined the lesser of 25 per cent of their match fee and $10,000 USD.
Kolkata captain Gautam Gambhir was also fined 15 per cent of his match fee in the same clash for breaching the code of conduct which relates to the "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match".
