Blues pair plus South Aussies the standouts in another action-packed weekend on the local scene
Nevill, Warner shine in Premier Cricket
David Warner produced a typically explosive performance on Sunday in the New South Wales Premier Cricket competition, but it was the suspended opener's JLT Sheffield Shield captain Peter Nevill who stole the show with a match-winning century for his side.
On Saturday at Petersham Oval, Warner was out for 35 as Randwick-Petersham drew with Hawkesbury in their two-day contest.
The banned Australian opener hit four fours and two sixes in his entertaining 49-ball knock, but fell to Aidan Van Den Nieuwboer with the score on 61.
Warner did fare much better for Randwick-Petersham on Sunday, with the dynamic stroke-maker smashing 81 from just 49 deliveries in a comfortable victory over UTS North Sydney in the Kingsgrove Sports Twenty20 Cup before dashing down the road to the SCG for an impromptu net session against Australian bowlers Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood.
But across town on Saturday it was Nevill who impressed most, with the New South Wales veteran scoring a superb 111 for Eastern Suburbs to help his side chase down Penrith's score of 295 at Waverley Oval for the loss of seven wickets.
The former Australian wicketkeeper strode to the crease with his team in big trouble at 5-81, but a 138-run partnership with Sam Robson allowed Eastern Suburbs to work their way back into the match.
Nevill was eventually out 31 runs short of the victory target, but Baxter Holt and Greg Clarence kept their cool to ensure Eastern Suburbs picked up their second win of the season.
South Australian batsman Jake Weatherald made 136 for Adelaide University in the South Australia Premier Cricket Competition on Saturday, but it was fellow Redbacks player Cameron Valente who overshadowed that effort for Adelaide in their clash with West Torrens.
Valente came to the crease with his side in all sorts of strife at 2-19 chasing West Torrens' mammoth total of 6-396 (dec) in the round seven contest at Glandore Oval.
The youngster batted for the remainder of the day and finished unbeaten on 156 as Adelaide held on by one wicket to draw the clash and remain in touch with the top four teams on the ladder.
The only century over the weekend in Perth's Western Australia Premier Cricket competition came from former KFC Big Bash star Travis Birt, who smashed 113 in Wanneroo's victory over Joondalup.
Rain ruined matches Premier Cricket matches in Victoria and Tasmania on Saturday, while in Queensland it was Bryce Street who impressed with his third century on the trot for Sandgate-Redcliffe.
Street hit 103 from 169 deliveries for Sandgate-Redcliffe, who managed to hold on for a draw by a solitary wicket against Sunshine Coast at Elizabeth Daniels Park.
