Ajmal retains number one spot

Spinner stays top, remains under cloud

Pakistani off-spinner Saeed Ajmal has retained first place in the latest ICC one-day international rankings, despite having left his country's most recent tour in order to undergo testing on a suspected illegal action.

The 36-year-old was reported during Pakistan's Test defeat to Sri Lanka in Galle for a second time in his career over his doosra, having previously undergone extensive testing in 2009 before being cleared.

Meanwhile, Australians Aaron Finch and Phil Hughes have made the most of their side's tri-series tour to Zimbabwe by shooting up the ICC's ODI batting rankings.

Finch, who made a century and two fifties in five innings during the tournament to lead Australia's run-scorers, has climbed 18 places to 34th position, while the world's No.1 Twenty20 batsman was also today named national captain in the shortest format.

And despite rising 24 places to 47th in the ODI rankings, Hughes was today deemed surplus to requirements for Australia's three-match 50-over series on the VB Tour of the UAE.

Elsewhere, the most notable mover was Faf du Plessis, whose astonishing run of form in the tri-series has been rewarded with a jump of 34 places.

Du Plessis scored his maiden century against Australia and followed it up with another two hundreds and 96 in the final to lead the run-scoring chart and equal the record for the most centuries in a one-day tournament.

As a result, he moves to a career-high 11th position, while regular partners-in-crime AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla continue to occupy first and second place respectively.

George Bailey, who yesterday announced he was standing down from Australia's T20 captaincy, remains his country's highest-ranked batsman, retaining the No.4 position.

Following the England-India series, in-form batsman Joe Root has climbed 13th places into 29th, while Shikhar Dhawan jumped three places into seventh position, just behind his skipper MS Dhoni (sixth).
