Bizarre scorecard in Twenty20 qualifier

The World Twenty20 qualifier featured 10 wickets and 20 runs

Myanmar and Malaysia played out a Twenty20 international on Tuesday that will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

Playing in an Asia region qualifier in Kuala Lumpur for the World Twenty20 tournament that will be held in Australia in 2020, the two nations played out a rain-effected contest that ended with an extraordinary scorecard.

After being asked to bat first, Myanmar were quickly reduced to 2-0 inside three deliveries as Pavandeep Singh picked up his first two scalps for the match.

It didn't get much better for the batting side, with Singh picking up a further three wickets during his spell to finish with a remarkable 5-1 as Myanmar fell to 8-9 in the 11th over before the rain came to provide them some respite.

All of Myanmar's nine runs came from singles, with Malaysia spinner Anwar Rahman providing ample support for Singh with figures of 2-3 from his four overs.

The rain stopped shortly after and Malaysia's task of achieving victory was made even easier when their victory target was reduced to just six from eight overs.

Paing Danu picked up two wickets in the first over of the reply to give Myanmar a slight glimmer of hope, but that quickly evaporated as Suhan Alagaratnam smashed a six - the only boundary of the match - to ensure Malaysia got the points.
