Klinger continues to pile on the runs

Michael Klinger's superb run of form in England seemingly knows no bounds.

The Melbourne-born batsman who plied his trade with Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers last summer, has been lighting it up for Gloucestershire in both first-class cricket and England's domestic T20 competition.

In four T20 innings Klinger has an incredible three centuries and is yet to be dismissed, racking up 403 runs.

The 34-year-old has posted scores of 126*, 69*, 104* and 104*in the T20 competition.

The jam-packed, format-switching calendar of England's professional cricket circuit means amongst that glut of T20 runs, Klinger has been able to adjust back to red-ball cricket and continue his run-scoring prowess.

He has now scored three centuries in the past five days – an incredible 352 runs across red- and white-ball formats while criss-crossing the southern part of the country.

In two first-class matches for Gloucestershire this season, he has scored 93, 102 and 42 for an average of 79 in the county championship's second division.

Unfortunately for Klinger's Gloucestershire side, they have lost each of the past three matches in which Klinger has scored a century.

The vagaries of the schedule have seen Gloucestershire complete their first-class match against Lancashire on Wednesday, travel to Essex for a T20 match on Thursday before returning to their home base at Bristol in England's west at 2am, where they hosted Glamorgan hours later.

"It's not ideal, obviously, coming back at 2am (but) that's just the schedule and what we have to deal with," Klinger said after Glamorgan match.

"In terms of the scheduling it's up to the ECB to decide but for us it's been a busy week that result wise hasn't gone our way.

"You don't often get hundreds in twenty20 cricket and your team loses," said Klinger.

"It's certainly disappointing but, yeah, you keep rying to plug away.

"I feel like I'm playing pretty well and hitting the ball well and sticking to my plans and things are going well from a personal point of view."

Klinger's 403 runs in the T20 compettion is ahead of Chris Gayle's 328 runs for Somerset, although the Melbourne Renegades-bound big-hitting West Indian has smashed an incredible 29 sixes and boasts a strike-rate of nearly 200. Kingler, with 15 sixes, is striking at 164.

Gayle and a host of other West Indians are this weekend finishing up with their county teams and heading back to the Caribbean for the imminent arrival of the Caribbean Premier League.

One of those West Indians returning home for the CPL left an unwanted souvenir at Edgbaston, when visiting Darren Sammy launched a huge six while batting for Nottinghamshrie that crashed through a window at Edgbaston.

A crowd favourite at Notts as well as with the Hobart Hurricanes faithful, Sammy joked on Twitter he would pay the repair bill.

In other matches, Worcestershire welcomed the return of wicket-taking form to star Pakistan bowler Saeed Ajmal, who snared 3-16 in four overs in their T20 match against Durham.

In an earlier match, he had also snared three scalps, but for a hugely expensive 53 runs.

His latest effort, which helped Worcs stay in touch with the north group's top teams, was far and away his best effort since returning to cricket with a remodelled action, having overcome an ICC ban for chucking.

Meanwhile, at Old Trafford, James Faulkner hit an unbeaten 47 from 30 balls to push Lancashire above 200 in their T20 match against Derbyshire.

Faulkner then opened the bowling, taking a wicket with his second ball, to finish with 1-19 from three overs as Lancashire enjoyed a convincing 67-run win.

Mahela Jayawardene finished his stint in England with a half-century – he was run out on the final ball of the innings – but it wasn't enough as his Sussex team lost heavily to Essex.

The Sri Lanka stalwart is also on his way to the Caribbean, but there is no word yet on if he will be joining his close friend and long-time Sri Lanka teammate Kumar Sangakkara in signing with a KFC T20 Big Bash League club.
