Injured 'Fizz' left out for West Indies tour

Shakib-al-Hasan returns to skipper Bangladesh side missing star quick for two-Test Caribbean series

Bangladesh have left out Mustafizur Rahman from their 15-man squad for next month's Test series against West Indies after the paceman failed to recover from an injury.

The 22-year-old, who has claimed 26 wickets in 10 Tests, hurt his left big toe last month during an Indian Premier League match playing for the Mumbai Indians.

Mustafizur was yet to regain his fitness from the injury which also forced him to miss the recent three-match Twenty20 series against Afghanistan, chief selector Minhajul Abedin said Monday.

"Barring a miracle he is unlikely to be fit before the second Test, so we left him out from the squad," Abedin said.

The first Test will be played in Antigua from July 4 while the second and final Test will be held in Kingston, Jamaica from July 12.

Right-arm paceman Abu Jayed, who has played three T20 internationals, earned his maiden call-up to the Test squad.

In Case You Played and Missed It: Third ODI

The squad has several changes from Bangladesh's last Test series in February against Sri Lanka at home which they lost 1-0.

Test skipper Shakib Al Hasan returned to the squad after missing out on the Sri Lanka series due to injury.

Bangladesh, who are also scheduled to play three ODIs and as many Twenty20 internationals on the West Indies tour, will leave home on June 23.

The loss of the Mustafizur, one of the most promising young quicks on the planet, will be a major blow for the Bangladeshis.

With a whippy arm action and a deceptive slower ball, the left-armer has previously starred for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL while he's also had success in international cricket.

Speaking during Australia's Test tour of Bangladesh last year, which finished in a 1-1 draw, Mustafizur's former IPL captain David Warner urged caution for the star bowler.

Windies escape with a draw on difficult final day

"He’s a very good bowler. I think the one thing that Bangladesh have to do is look after him," Warner said.

"You have to look after your fast bowlers, so if he’s your No.1 strike bowler moving forward when you’ve got a couple of Test matches and one-dayers coming up, you’ve really got to monitor that.

"You’ve got to prioritise whether it’s Test cricket, one-day cricket, Twenty20 cricket.

"That’s obviously a conversation for them to have with him but I think he’s an exceptional talent, an exceptional bowler, and it’s upon himself to work out if he wants to play all three forms, one form, or two forms."
