The Perth Scorchers have finalised their preliminary squad in line with the contracting requirements for the inaugural KFC T20 Big Bash League with the confirmation of the signing of the 15th member of the squad, Ben Edmondson.

The Perth Scorchers have finalised their preliminary squad in line with the contracting requirements for the inaugural KFC T20 Big Bash League with the confirmation of the signing of the 15th member of the squad, Ben Edmondson.
Edmondson has returned to Perth after one season in South Australia. He has been a consistent performer in T20 cricket for the Retravision Warriors and West End Redbacks, taking 30 wickets in 23 games, including two hauls of four wickets in a match, while conceding a respectable 7.5 runs per over.
Perth Scorchers Head Coach Mickey Arthur says:
“Ben Edmondson strengthens our pace bowling stocks. His record in T20 cricket has been outstanding over a number of years and he will be an integral member of the Scorchers attack. We’re very happy to have him back in Perth this summer, and it will be great to see him in full flight at the WACA.”
Under the rules of the KFC T20 Big Bash League, all teams are required to submit a contracted list of at least 14 players by Friday 22 July 2011. 18 contracts in total must be in place by 9 December 2011, with a supplementary list of six registered by that date as well.
Arthur said: “I am very happy with the composition of the squad we have assembled. There is a fantastic blend of youth and experience, and some quality WA and Australian personnel mixed with outstanding international recruits.
“We have secured a number of high class batsmen, an international spinner, a couple of young up and coming all-rounders and a balanced pace attack. All of the players bring great characteristics to our set-up and are committed to representing the people of Perth with pride.
We will look to fill the sixteenth contract spot with another quality spin bowling option to support Michael Beer, and this will be announced in the coming weeks.”
Arthur and the recruiting team at the Scorchers have chosen to keep spots 17 and 18 open to allow young local talent every opportunity to impress in the first two months of the domestic cricket season and earn a contract based on performance.
“We are keen to nurture our young up and coming talent and give them even more of a reason to start the season well. The lure of a BBL contract in the inaugural season may just be a motivator for us to see some extra effort from our young guys, both in the State squad and in the WACA District cricket competition.”
The KFC T20 Big Bash League officially launches in Sydney next Wednesday 27 July, where team logos, uniforms and captains will be unveiled for the first time. The event will be broadcast live on FoxSports.
