After a series relatively free of umpire referral controversies, England No.3 Joe Root has found himself at the centre of a fresh debate in the third Commonwealth Bank Ashes Test in Perth.
Root dismissal sparks controversy
Initially given out caught behind off the bowling of Shane Watson by umpire Marais Erasmus, Root immediately referred the decision.
Third umpire Tony Hill deemed both Hot Spot and Real-Time Snicko technology to be inconclusive, and because the original decision was out, there was insufficient evidence to overturn the decision.
The decision is certain to reopen the technology debate, which came to a head during the UK-based Ashes earlier in the year after a series of controversial rulings.
