Kellaway ton puts Vics in the box seat against Bulls

Queensland have slumped to 3-58 chasing 329 for victory in their day-night Sheffield Shield clash with Victoria

Queensland v Victoria | Sheffield Shield | Day 3

Campbell Kellaway scored his maiden Sheffield Shield century to put Victoria in the box seat of their pink-ball clash with Queensland at the Gabba.

Queensland went to stumps on day three struggling at 3-58 chasing 329 for victory.

Kellaway made a seven-ball duck in Victoria's sub-par first-innings total of 186, with Queensland making 297 in reply.

But the 22-year-old was in a class of his own in Victoria's second innings, combining with Marcus Harris (62) for a 154-run opening stand to catapult the Vics back into the contest.

Tom Rogers (69), Matt Short (59) and Peter Handscomb (35) also chipped in with handy knocks to help lift Victoria to an imposing 439.

In reply, Queensland lost Matt Renshaw for a duck to 40-year-old veteran Peter Siddle in the second over of their run chase and they were 2-32 when Bryce Street fell for seven.

Angus Lovell (26) put up some resistance, but he was sent packing following a stunning one-handed catch by Matt Short while he was running with the flight of the ball.

Jack Clayton (10no) and Liam Guthrie (0no) made it safely to stumps, with Queensland facing a big task to reel in the victory target.

Victoria started day three at 0-122 in their second innings, with Kellaway on 62 and Harris on 50.

Harris was caught at slip off the bowling of spinner Lovell, but Kellaway went on with the job to post his maiden first-class century.

Kellaway's 175-ball knock, which featured 14 boundaries, was finally brought to an end when he was bowled by Street in the final over before the dinner break.

Queensland used eight bowlers in their bid to make inroads into Victoria's strong batting line-up, but breakthroughs were few and far between for the Bulls.

Liam Guthrie led the Bulls attack with 4-96.
