Josh Hazlewood first appeared on the international scene as a teenager way back in 2010 in an ODI against England. Despite his immense promise, he was forced to wait another four years before collecting his Baggy Green in the second Test of the 2014-15 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Callup up to debut in the absence of Ryan Harris and Peter Siddle and presented with Baggy Green cap No.440 by the great Glenn McGrath, Hazlewood took the new ball alongside Mitchell Johnson but was forced to wait until the 34th over to claim his first Test scalp. The victim? Cheteshwar Pujara, caught behind by Brad Haddin for 18.

It wasn't a dismissal without conjecture. Pujara tried to evade a Hazlewood bouncer, and the thought the ball had brushed his glove was evidence enough to convince the umpire it was time to end his stay. To India's dismay, replays showed the ball had glanced off Pujara's helmet on the way through to Haddin. Nonetheless, Hazlewood's Test career was officially underway.

It took only 12 matches for Hazlewood to notch his 50th Test wicket. It came as the third of a glut of six second-innings poles, trapping Kiwi champion Ross Taylor lbw in the inaugural pink-ball Test.

A haul of 6-70 to go with 3-66 in the first innings was enough to secure Hazlewood his own slice of history, when he became the first cricketer to receive Player of the Match honours in a day-night Test.

Those figures of 6-70 marked Hazlewood's best Test innings haul until it was pipped with 6-67 against India in Bengaluru in 2017, while his match figures of 9-136 remains the third best of his 76-match career.

After notching his early Test wicket milestones courtesy of top order batters, Hazlewood brought up his hundredth courtesy of Pakistan tailender Wahab Riaz. Cramped while trying to swing over midwicket, Wahab gave Hazlewood a simple caught and bowled chance that resulted in a Pakistan first innings declaration. Azhar Ali remained unbowed at the other end on 205.

The wicket was Hazlewood's third for the innings, making him the pick of the Aussie attack with an economical 3-50 from 32.3 overs.

A milestone to celebrate on a day the Australian team would rather forget.

This Test Match will forever be known for the events that led to significant sanctions for some of Australia's biggest names, but it also marked an important signpost in Hazlewood's career trajectory.

With the attention of fans and media trained on matters elsewhere, Hazlewood managed to pick up the great AB de Villiers, drawing an edge that sent the new ball into the hands of Shaun Marsh at first slip.

It wasn't the only Australian milestone recorded during the South Africans' second innings. Off-spinner Nathan Lyon picked up his 300th Test wicket, via a Tim Paine stumping of Kagiso Rabada as South Africa rattled along to a 430-run lead.

The paceman's year-long hiatus from Test cricket ended with a bang. A hamstring strain kept him sidelined from the last two Tests of the 2019/2020 summer before the COVID-19 pandemic prevented the Australians from playing any Test cricket until December 2020.

Hazlewood could not have scripted a better return, scything through the Indian middle order on his way to an eye-popping 5-8 that helped send the visitors packing for a total of just 36.

Ravichandran Ashwin became Hazlewood's 200th victim, caught by Aussie skipper Tim Paine behind the stumps for a first-ball duck. Ashwin asked for a review, but it was Snicko that guaranteed Hazlewood would become the 18th Australian man to reach the milestone.

Entering his 67th Test on 249 wickets, Hazlewood needed only five overs to tick off his latest milestone. West Indies batter Alick Athanaze was the unfortunate victim, opting to shoulder arms only to watch the ball duck back in and clip the top of his off stump.

It was the first of Hazlewood's nine wickets for the match, the best of his career to date (9-79). Despite this, it still wasn't enough to pick up Player of the Match honours. That instead went to home-town hero Travis Head, who struck 119 from only 134 balls to set up a comfortable Australian win.

Hazlewood made history on that first day, becoming the fourth member of Australia's bowling attack to boast 250 Test wickets each alongside Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummings. It remains the only attack in Test history to feature four players with more than 250 wickets apiece.

Wicket No.250 was the third of Hazlewood's six milestone dismissals to have fallen at the Adelaide Oval.

Playing his first Test in a year having missed the entire Ashes with injury, Hazlewood was the most effective of the Australian bowlers in their grind to disrupt a dogged Bangladesh outfit in Darwin. While he was unfortunate not to have the early scalp of Tanzid Hasan (dropped off his bowling by Nathan Lyon on zero, going on to score 101), Hazlewood made regular breakthroughs in the Tigers' first innings before clinching his 300th in the first over after lunch on day three. He held the ball aloft after Mehidy Hasan's edge behind saw the paceman become not only the ninth Australian to 300 Test wickets but also clinch a 14th career five-wicket haul.
