Ever-evolving Webster has 'an eye on' Aussie white-ball sides

Following a positive start to his Test career, Beau Webster admits he harbours ambitions of forcing his way into Australia's shorter-format teams as well.

The Tasmanian made his Test debut at the New Year's Test in Sydney 2025 against India, and has now notched up eight matches in the Baggy Green in the 18 months since.

Although Australia's bumper Test schedule of up to 21 Tests in 12 months has been the major focus on the eve of the series against Bangladesh, the next 50-over World Cup is a little over a year away, due to take place in southern Africa in October 2027.

And after an uptick in his limited-over stats, Webster is keen to get an opportunity for his country in ODIs or T20Is.

"My white-ball (game) I feel has been developing quite nicely the last few years," Webster told the Unplayable Podcast on Tuesday.

"It kind of feels like it's getting better each year, and I've had a bit more opportunity batting up the order in one-day cricket for Tassie and some T20s as well, in the Big Bash and (T20) Blast.

"So I feel like I've certainly gotten better in that facet of the game.

"If it's a slow turner, I can bowl some off-spinners, and if it's a nipper I can bowl some seamers.

"It's definitely something I've got my eye on, and would love to be able to debut in."

Webster only returned from the United Kingdom two Sundays ago following his latest stint with Warwickshire, which saw the allrounder play first-class and T20 matches for the Bears.

In June, the Webster peeled off the first T20 century of his career against Somerset batting at number three, a milestone he said was "nice to tick off".

"I probably didn't really think it was on the cards to be honest," Webster said.

"Over the last few years, I've batted up the order a bit more, and it's probably become more (of a) live (possibility) in the last two or so years when I've been batting number three a bit more."

The 32-year-old has noticed an improvement in his one-day batting too, most notably his strike rate.

In his 50-over List A matches since 2022, Webster's strike rate has grown to 89.36, compared to only 66.86 in the first half of his professional career (2016-2021).

In February this year he crunched 138 from 122 against Western Australia, the highest One-Day Cup score of his career. Again, his starring knock came from No.3.
