World Cup winner and former national coach to guide Australia's rising stars
Aussie great to oversee next generation of women's players
Australia great Lisa Keightley will oversee the development of the country's next generation of female talent, after being appointed Cricket Australia's national development lead.
Keightley, a former head coach of Australia and England, has replaced former Australia leg-spinner Kristen Beams in the role, after Beams departed to take on an assistant coaching role with Cricket Tasmania.
Keightley will also continue in her current role as Sydney Thunder's WBBL head coach, after her contract was extended through to the end of Weber WBBL|13 earlier this year.
One of the top priorities for Keightley, who commences the role on September 10, will be preparing Australia's under-19s for next January's T20 World Cup in Bangladesh and Nepal.
It will be the third edition of the women's underage tournament, and Australia will be eyeing the title for the first time after falling short at the semi-final stage at both the inaugural World Cup in South Africa in 2023, and last year's event in Malaysia.
"I'm really excited to take on this role and contribute to the future of Australian cricket," Keightley said in a statement.
"I've been fortunate to work with players and coaches at all levels of the game, and one thing I've learned is how important strong pathways and guidance are in helping talent grow and thrive.
"My focus will be on supporting players, coaches and staff across the country, helping create positive environments and making sure people have the opportunities and support they need to be their best."
Keightley's extensive resume saw her play nine Tests, 82 ODIs and one T20I during her decade-long Australian career, including being part of 50-over World Cup winning squads in 1997 and 2005.
Following her retirement in 2005, Keightley immediately moved into coaching, overseeing New South Wales from 2005-2007 before stepping into the national role for two years.
She was the inaugural Perth Scorchers coach from 2015-2020 before departing to take over as England women's head coach, holding the role for three years.
In 2026, she has combined her Thunder responsibilities with head coaching roles at Mumbai Indians in the Women's Premier League, and MI London in The Hundred.
"We're delighted to welcome Lisa back to Australian cricket," CA's head of national development Sonya Thompson said.
"Lisa brings a wealth of experience to the role, having worked across international, domestic and pathway programs throughout her coaching career.
"She's passionate about developing people and helping players reach their potential, and that makes her a great fit for this role."
