The big-hitting Renegades opener crashed a match-winning 67no for Norths against Wests
Brown white-hot in Queensland's men's T20 Max decider
Melbourne Renegades blaster Josh Brown overcame a lean run to upstage a century from Wests' Will Bosisto and hand Norths the men's KFC T20 Max title in a thrilling affair at Allan Border Field on Saturday night.
Wests were in the box seat to win after Bosisto crashed nine sixes in his 101 from 43 balls, the 32-year-old former WA batter dominating the innings as he looked to help Wests to a T20 Max double, following the success of their women's side earlier in the week.
Bosisto was well supported by Sohaan Sharma (56 off 36) and young Queensland contracted batter Tom Campbell, who closed out the innings with 53no from 27 balls to push the total to a mammoth 3-251.
In reply, Norths flew out of the blocks with an 85-run first-wicket stand between Cameron Hemp (50 off 21) and Aryan Jain (72 off 36).
Campbell broke that stand in his lone over, and after a mid-innings stumble that included the key wicket of Queensland great Joe Burns, taken by Brisbane Heat quick Oli Paterson (2-30), Brown took control.
With a run of scores throughout the T20 Max of 1, 4, 4, 6, 6, 2, 4, the right-hander was overdue for a big performance, and coming in at No.6 with the score at 4-148, he delivered when it mattered.
In the space of just 23 balls, Brown clattered seven sixes and three fours, with his unbeaten 67, including a six over point to seal the win with three balls to spare, as entertaining as it was timely.
The 32-year-old Brown, who shot to stardom with Brisbane Heat after a breakout T20 Max campaign back in 2022, will return to Melbourne this summer, with two years still to run on his deal with the Renegades.
