Bangladesh will be out to defy Australia's strong bowling attack in the opening one-dayer at AB Field
Australia hunt early wickets after opting to bowl in Brisbane
Australia will bowl first in the opening one-day international against Bangladesh in Brisbane after Tahlia McGrath won the toss in her return as stand-in national skipper.
Nicola Carey was the unlucky member of a reduced 12-player squad to miss selection for the first of three matches at Allan Border Field, with Megan Schutt set to take the new ball alongside Kim Garth.
Australia XI: Phoebe Litchfield, Georgia Voll, Ellyse Perry, Beth Mooney (wk), Annabel Sutherland, Ashleigh Gardner, Tahlia McGrath (c), Georgia Wareham, Kim Garth, Alana King, Megan Schutt
Bangladesh XI: Nigar Sultana Joty (c) (wk), Nahida Akter, Sharmin Akter Supta, Ritu Moni, Fargana Hoque Pinky, Sharmin Sultana, Sobhana Mostary, Rabeya Khan, Marufa Akter, Shorna Akter, Habiba Islam Pinky
Captain Sophie Molineux (hip) and quick Lucy Hamilton (quad) are sitting out the 50-over games as they recover from niggles, with leg-spinning allrounder Georgia Wareham making a rare one-day appearance.
This is Australia's first ODI since their tour of the West Indies in April, where they swept the hosts 3-0. McGrath was also in charge for that series, with Molineux managing a back issue at the time.
Queensland-contracted youngster Grace Collins will carry drinks after being named 13th. Australia elected not to add any extra members to their squad for the series despite having just 12 players available, with the country's domestic players now gathering in Sydney for the T20 Spring Challenge starting Monday.
Bangladesh are aiming to defeat Australia for the first time in any format, in what is their first ODI tour of the country. The Tigresses have only played in Australia once before, during the 2020 T20 World Cup.
Fresh off a dominant T20 World Cup win, Australia allrounder Ellyse Perry said the hosts now wanted to make a statement in the one-day game.
"We haven't played a lot of one-day cricket recently, and even looking over the next 24 months, it's going to be sporadic when we drop into one-day cricket as a group," Perry told reporters in Brisbane on Wednesday.
"(But) I think our ethos is the same. There's obviously some nuance in the format, the period of time you spend either at the crease or bowling, but I really hope that translates (across).
"There's a one-day World Cup at the back end of this decade, which I think having not had success in the last one, everyone will be looking towards.
"A lot changes in a couple of years in women's cricket, so I think we've got to keep trying to push that where we want to take that style of cricket too."
