Tryon signs with fourth WBBL club, 'Gades complete overseas trio

The pieces of the puzzle are coming together for the Renegades as they add all-round experience for WBBL|12

Chloe Tryon will play for her fourth WBBL club this season after signing a one-year deal with the Melbourne Renegades.

The South Africa allrounder has appeared in five previous WBBL seasons, including three for the Hurricanes and one for each of the Sydney clubs.

In Weber WBBL|12, she'll lend her aggressive middle-order batting and left-arm spin to the Melbourne club who are eyeing a second title in what is likely to be their final season under the 'Renegades' name.

Tryon is the third and final overseas player signed by the 'Gades, who have gone for three allrounders having also signed West Indies captain Hayley Matthews and allrounder Deandra Dottin.

Tryon's last appearance in the WBBL was in 2024, when she struggled to find her best playing for the Hurricanes, scoring 83 runs and taking four wickets across nine matches.

She was a force to be reckoned with a season earlier for the Sixers, however, hammering 277 runs at a strike rate of 131.27 and taking nine scalps – and it's that version of Tryon the Renegades will be hoping for this season.

Renegades coach Gavan Twining said Tryon's experience and versatility would make her a valuable addition to the squad.

"Chloe is a genuine match-winner who has performed on the biggest stages in world cricket, and we've seen first-hand what she can do in the Women's Big Bash," Twining said in a statement.

"Her power at the back end of an innings and her left-arm spin give us real flexibility, and her experience will be valuable for our group. We're thrilled to have her in red this summer."

Tryon, who has more than 15 years of international experience, will slot into the middle-order alongside a trio of other powerful hitters in Georgia Wareham, Nicole Faltum and Tess Flintoff, while she will offer another spin option alongside the all-star trio of leg-spinner Wareham, off-spinner Matthews and left-armer Sophie Molineux.

The Renegades have just two spots to fill on their WBBL|12 list, including one that can only be signed at the conclusion of the T20 Spring Challenge, which runs until October 21.
