South Australia: Nathan McSweeney (c), Brendan Doggett, Henry Hunt, Jake Lehmann, Ben Manenti, Nathan McAndrew, Harry Nielsen, Lloyd Pope, Jason Sangha, Liam Scott, Henry Thornton, Jake Weatherald

Queensland: Mitchell Swepson (c), Xavier Bartlett, Hugo Burdon, Tom Campbell, Jack Clayton, Cameron Gannon, Lachlan Hearne, Hayden Kerr, Angus Lovell, Jimmy Peirson (wk), Jem Ryan, Tom Straker, Hugh Weibgen

South Australia made a convincing start to their quest for a third straight Sheffield Shield title in the opening round against Victoria, and now welcome back in-form skipper Nathan McSweeney and last summer's player of the tournament in allrounder Liam Scott to face Queensland, in a match that will be broadcast on Fox Cricket, as well as Kayo Sports and the CA Live app.

Both McSweeney and Scott had missed the first round clash with Australia A in India, where they both impressed, while the state skipper showed the form he's in with a One-Day Cup century against the Bulls on Saturday.

In more good news for the home side, opener Jake Weatherald has been named in the squad after successfully progressing through concussion protocols after being subbed out on day two against Victoria. Weatherald had hit his head on the fence at Junction Oval after awkwardly sliding into it in an attempt to save a boundary.

The ex-Test opener's availability means his concussion sub Matthew Gilkes drops out, while the return of McSweeney and Scott has also seen Wes Agar, Mackenzie Harvey and Noah McFadyen all dropped. It's a tough pill to swallow for McFadyen in particular, who starred with a century and a five-wicket haul on his first-class debut in round 1.

Queensland have called up the 2024 U19 World Cup winner Tom Campbell - now 21 - for what would be his first-class debut in the only change to their squad from their Round 1 narrow defeat in Perth. Campbell, who is on his first professional contract, is one of three U19 World Cup winners in the Bulls' squad along with Hugh Weibgen and Tom Straker.

The right-handed Campbell hit 1,033 runs last summer, including 335 at 67 for the undefeated Queensland Second XI, and was named the best Under-21 player in Queensland's Premier Cricket competition.

The Bulls only managed 68 in their second innings against WA, sacrificing a strong position and ultimately losing the match by two wickets despite the best efforts of Xavier Bartlett, who had nine wickets in the match. Opener Angus Lovell and No.3 Hugo Burdon both managed  only single figures in both innings and would be candidates to make way if Campbell was to debut.

Dropping out of the Queensland squad is wicketkeeper Dylan McLachlan, who had been included in round 1 as cover for Jimmy Peirson, who was on the comeback from hamstring surgery. Pierson hit his ninth first-class century against WA in what was his 100th first-class match.

Western Australia: Aaron Hardie (c), Cameron Bancroft, Hilton Cartwright, Brody Couch, Joel Curtis, Kieran Elliott, Albert Esterhuysen, Jayden Goodwin, Liam Haskett, Joel Paris, Jhye Richardson, Corey Rocchiccioli, Corey Wasley, Sam Whiteman

New South Wales: Lachlan Shaw (c), Sean Abbott, Oliver Davies, Ben Dwarshuis, Jack Edwards, Liam Hatcher, Ryan Hicks, Sam Konstas, Kurtis Patterson, Josh Philippe, Will Salzmann, Tanveer Sangha, Jake Scott

WA will be out to keep its unbeaten start to the 2026-27 Sheffield Shield season intact, following a tense two-wicket win over Queensland at the WACA Ground earlier this month.

Sam Fanning, who hit the winning runs in the win over Queensland, is the only player to drop out of the squad, having sustained a hamstring injury while fielding on day three of that match.

Fanning is replaced in the squad by former Captain Sam Whiteman, who replaced an ill Tom Murray after day one of the match against Queensland.

Richardson takes timely five to rout Bulls in Shield opener

Whiteman replaced Fanning opening the batting in the second innings, compiling an important 40 in the pursuit of 201 for victory.

Rockingham-Mandurah top order batter Corey Wasley is also in the mix for his Sheffield Shield debut as the other addition to the squad.

Fellow top order batter Jayden Goodwin retains his place in the squad, despite missing the season opener due to illness, which led to Murray getting his chance to debut.

New South Wales, meanwhile, will be led for the first time in the Shield by 23-year-old Lachlan Shaw, who skippered the Blues in consecutive wins in the One-Day Cup last month.

Shaw, who will become the Blues’ 124th first-class captain, rejoins the NSW set-up having returned from the Australia A tour of India alongside teammates Sam Konstas, Josh Philippe, Liam Hatcher, Tanveer Sangha and Ben Dwarshuis.
Brock Fitton, Reiley Mark, Bryce Jackson, Charlie Stobo and Riley Kingsell drop out of the squad.

Fresh off a century in round one, allrounder Jack Edwards is poised to play his 50th Shield match.
