Fast bowler James Pattinson will miss the second Ashes Test after Australia named a 12-man squad for the clash at Lord's without the Victorian.
NSW Blues quicks Josh Hazlewood and Mitch Starc are in the squad to face England, starting Wednesday.
Pattinson was available for selection but with the tight schedule and his long injury history, the 29-year-old has been put on ice.
Australia XII for second Ashes Test: David Warner, Cameron Bancroft, Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Matthew Wade, Tim Paine (c, wk), Pat Cummins, Mitch Starc, Peter Siddle, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood
The first Test at Edgbaston, where he produced match figures of 2-111 from 35 overs, was Pattinson's first Test in three-and-a-half years after suffering a series of devastating back injuries that led to the right-armer undergoing radical surgery.
Hazlewood missed out on playing at Edgbaston on the morning of the match, overlooked for Peter Siddle on a "gut feel" by the selectors.
The final XI is set to be named at the toss as the Australians continue to keep their cards close to their chest.
Australia captain Tim Paine said on match eve his six-strong battery of quicks (which also includes the uncapped Michael Neser) will be managed through the series to make sure they stay fit and healthy, not just for the Ashes but also the near future.
"We want to make sure the five or six bowlers we've got here have the next three or four years bowling as a group together," Paine said.
"There will be some management as part of that at some stage."
Hazlewood and Starc both missed the first Test in Birmingham but featured in Australia's three-day tour game against Worcestershire last week.
Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors with 3-34 from 15 overs, while Starc bowled with extreme pace to collect 2-56 from 15.5 overs.
Former Australia fast bowler Mitchell Johnson, who played alongside both Hazlewood and Starc the last time Australia played at Lord's in 2015, said he would pick the left-armer for the second Test.
"I'd go for Starc and probably have Pattinson out," Johnson said on the latest episode of The Unplayable Podcast.
"As much as I want to see (Josh) Hazlewood go well you can't drop Sidds.
"He's been really useful and especially on the slope I think he'd be very good and he just backed up (off-spinner Nathan) Lyon really well.
"And (Pat) Cummins is in his own little world, just leave him be.
Johnson continued: "It's hard to change a winning side but I'd like to see Starc still come charging in.
"The slope comes into it, big time. Left-armer, bit of a different angle.
"We saw in the last Test the (Australian fast bowlers) coming around the wicket a fair bit … I'm not too sure about that. Someone's got to stay over and one around to left-hand batters.
"So maybe a left-hand bowler would be ideal."
