Harris belts fastest WBBL century

Brisbane Heat opener Grace Harris has smashed the fastest century in Rebel WBBL history, scoring an epic unbeaten 101 in dramatic fashion as her team defeated the Melbourne Stars by 10 wickets at the Gabba.

With the Heat requiring 133 runs to defeat the Stars, Harris reached triple figures from just 42 deliveries, eclipsing Sixers star Ashleigh Gardner’s previous record of 47 deliveries from WBBL|03.

Given the size of the total it took some careful management from Harris and fellow opener Beth Mooney to reach the target during the final stages of the chase.

They needed just one run for victory with Harris on 95 and after several swings and misses, the powerful allrounder struck a massive six down the ground to reach her century.

Harris’ innings included five sixes and 13 fours, as she helped the Heat reach their target inside just 10.5 overs with 10 wickets in hand.

She reached her half-century from 23 balls and was dropped on 92 by Erin Osborne off the bowling of Angela Reakes, whose sole over went for 24.

She had already broken the record for fastest WBBL half-century by a Heat player earlier in the season during a 28-ball 54, but there was no stopping Harris at the Gabba on Wednesday with her runs coming at a strike rate of 240.48.

For Mooney, it was a matter of sitting back and enjoying the Harris show during her own 28no from 25.

Harris is the first player two score two WBBL centuries, having already scored a ton during the first edition of the competition.

Earlier, the Stars struggled against the accurate Heat attack, posting 7-132 from their 20 overs with Ange Reakes (3) and Katie Mack (26) their top-scorers.

Jess Jonassen finished with 3-17 while Sammy Jo-Johnson (2-30) was the other multiple wicket taker.
