Henry rules for Kent with record figures

Kiwi quick takes 12 as Durham are thrashed inside two days in county action

Matt Henry has taken career-best figures of 12-73 as his English county Kent climbed to the top of the division two standings.

Black Caps pace bowler Henry was the standout figure in a nine-wicket win at Durham, ripping through the home side's first innings with 5-28.

He followed up with 7-45 in the second innings as Durham were skittled for 91 and 170.

The figures were the best by Kent bowler against Durham, surpassing Makhaya Ntini's 10-104 (4-53 and 6-51) in May 2010.

"It was a hell of an effort from the guys today," Henry said on the club's website. "We knew we had to bowl well this morning and it was important that we challenged their defence.

"I thought we did that really well. Obviously to come away with the result inside two days is very special.

"It was great to have the rewards at the end there. We came in with a pretty simple game plan, we knew that we have to be full and straight for long periods of time.

"I felt we did that in partnerships, everyone did really well. It was great to have the rewards myself.

"It was coming out really nice. It's always good when it comes off because sometimes when you're bowling nice you don't get the reward."

Boult screamer labelled 'IPL's best ever'

It continued a fine start to Henry's county stint, after he recorded match figures of 7-70 in his debut against Gloucestershire a week earlier.

The 26-year-old impressed when handed the occasional appearance of New Zealand in his home summer.

His most recent appearance was the one-day international win over Pakistan in Wellington in January, when his figures of 4-53 didn't warrant another chance.
