Scorchers stun Thunder at WACA

The Scorchers got one back over the top team with a big eight-wicket victory

The Perth Scorchers have stormed back into the Rebel WBBL top four after belting the top-of-the-table Sydney Thunder by eight wickets at the WACA.

England allrounder Nat Sciver's unbeaten 61 - and some poor Thunder bowling, including an alarming 20 wides - allowed the Scorchers to comfortably reel in the visitors' 4-134 with 11 balls remaining.

They swiftly reversed Sunday's result between the two teams.

Match highlights: Perth scorch Thunder bowlers

Sciver dominated from the outset as the Scorchers overcame the early direct-hit run-out of Elyse Villani, the competition's second-highest run-scorer, to snap the Thunder's five-match winning streak with relative ease.

The visitors weren't at their best with the ball, particularly Nicola Carey, who endured a nightmare, just 24 hours after her death-over expertise was pivotal in the Thunder sneaking home by one run at Lilac Hill.

Her sole over on Monday leaked 27 runs, which included 14 wides and three Sciver boundaries as Perth's scoring rate motored past 10 an over.

Brunt bounds into fiery return

Leg-spinner Maisy Gibson was the pick of the Thunder bowlers, snaring the dangerous Nicole Bolton (28) and conceding 18 off her four overs, but the damage was done.

The Thunder were also quite wasteful with the bat, squandering a gem of an innings from captain Alex Blackwell, who smoked an unconquered 81 off 58 balls, a career-high and the best effort with the bat this season by any Thunder player.

Despite being in the losing side, Blackwell deservedly claimed player-of-the-match honours. She needed more from out-of-sorts West Indian skipper Stafanie Taylor, who again was unable to break the shackles, soaking up 45 deliveries for her 31.

Returning from a back injury, English spearhead Katherine Brunt (1-13) was outstanding with the new ball.
